Teacher Training Courses

Award in Education & Training (AET)

The online AET means you get to study at times to suit you.  This course runs over 1 week, and most of our students choose to access the course in the evenings and over the weekend.  It is more structured than other online courses, and there is dedicated tutor support and guidance throughout the week.

Students are required to complete 3 assessments, contribute to online discussion topics, deliver a 15 minute micro teach session at the end of the week, as well a observe and give feedback on another micro teach session.  

This qualification is targeted at those who are new to teaching; and can be regarded as a stepping stone to the certificate (CET) and diploma (DET) at a later date.

 

Certificate in education & training (CET)

The online CET means that you can start at any time, and access the course materials and assessments at times to suit you.  Most of our students complete the CET within 3 months.

Students are required to complete 6 units that focus on the planning, delivering, and assessing of learners, as well as using resources effectively, and teaching in a specialist area.  All course materials are provided online, so there are no additional costs.

Students must be aged 19 and over, and should already be in a teaching position - you need to produce evidence of 30 hours of teaching practice (including 3 hours of observations) that need to be logged and signed off by your line manager.  

 

Diploma of Education & training (DET)

The online DET means you can start at any time, and access all course materials and assessments at times to suit you.  Most of our students complete the DET within 6 months.

Students are required to complete 7 units that take a deeper look into the teaching theories and models, developing learning and assessment skills, developing and organising resources in a specialist area, wider professional development in education and training, and an Action Research Project. 

Students also need to produce evidence of 100 hours of teaching practice (including 8 hours of observations of teaching practice) that are logged and signed off by their line manager.

English language & literature for teachers

Ideal for teachers and trainers wanting to have a specialised qualification to teach up to Level 2 in English.  Can be studied alongside DET / Assessor Award qualifications.  

There are 4 units: Communication / Reading Skills / Speaking & Listening Skills / Writing Skills.  

Each unit has an overview presentation, resources, practice exercises, and the assessment criteria, so students are well-prepared before attempting each unit assignment.

 

mathematics for numeracy teaching

Ideal for teachers and trainers wanting to have a specialised qualification to teach up to Level 2 in Mathematics.

Students are required to work through 3 units, completing assessments that ask them to examine how maths is used in academic, personal, professional and vocational contexts, and to analyse the pros and cons of using mathematical models in real life.

 
 

Assessment & Verification Courses

 

Assessor Award

This online Assessor Award course means you can start at any time throughout the year, and access the course at times to suit you. Most of our students complete this qualification within 3 months. 

There are 3 units available, and depending on your requirements, you may only need to complete two.  The units cover the principles and practices of assessment, assessing competence in the workplace, and assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding.  If you are not sure, we recommend you get in touch for a quick chat to check which option you need.  

Please note: students must have two candidates ready to assess in order to complete this qualification.

 

Internal Quality Assurance (IQA)

Students can start this online course at any time, and is for those who verify the work of other assessors.  

There are 3 units available, and depending on your requirements, you may require 1, 2, or all three units - if you are not sure, please get in touch for a quick chat to check which option is best for you.  

The units cover the principles and practices of internally assuring quality assurance, internally assure the quality of assessment, and to plan, allocate, and monitor work in own area of responsibility.  

Please note: students completing Unit 2 must have two assessors with two candidates each.

 

Management & Leadership Courses

 

Award in management & leadership

Targeted at those wanting to gain an introduction to leadership and management skills and knowledge, as well as qualities required for a managerial role.  Most students complete this course within a month.

As this course is delivered online, students can start at any time throughout the year, access course materials and assessments at times to suit them, and are given dedicated tutor support to provide feedback and guidance.

Students will focus on management and leadership styles, analyse effective managerial skills used by successful leaders, match personality test results with leadership and management skills to determine strengths and weaknesses, prepare a personal development plan to improve those skills.

Ideal for anyone who is already in a managerial role, but would like formal accreditation.  

Students are required to complete 7 units, covering the principles of management and leadership, strategic business management & planning, strategic decision making, product / service portfolio management, customer service management, innovation and change management, and marketing management.

As will all of MKLC Training's online courses, all course materials are supplied online, and students have access to dedicated tutor support to give feedback and guidance throughout their course.  Students can enrol and start at any time throughout the year, and access the course at time to suit them.

Ever wanted to become a published academic as a way to improve your career, or simply to demonstrate your expertise in a specialised area?

Students work through this online course by formalising their initial concept and idea,  receive guidance and tips on how to review the relevant literature, shown how to collect data and compose effective questionnaires, and finally how to analyse and present their results.  

Students complete the course with an 3,000 - 5,000 word academic paper that is ready for publication.  

 

diploma in project, research & study skills

This course provides students with the research training and skills required in preparation for a Master's degree or a PhD. 

There are two core units to this course: one focuses on research methods and the skills involved in undertaking a research project, while the other involves the application of these skills.  It is estimated that 120 hours of learning are needed for this programme.  There may be more time involved in carrying out the research project, depending on how the data is being collected. 

Students are also given advice and guidance on how to present their project in writing and orally.

 

the art of Effective feedback

We all give feedback, but can we improve our own methods in order to become more effective in our role?  

This short online course can be used as a helpful refresher as well as count towards your annual CPD requirements (this course is 10 GLH).  

All materials are supplied online, and students are required to complete three short assessments to demonstrate understanding of the topic, prepare a self reflection journal of their experiences and how to improve their own techniques, and to offer constructive advice and shared experiences to others on the course.
