What is the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training?
The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) is a practical teaching qualification for people already teaching or training in further education, adult learning or workplace settings.
You’ll develop your ability to identify learning needs, plan structured lessons, select suitable resources and assess progress. Alongside your online study, you’ll apply these skills in your own teaching and use feedback to reflect on and improve your practice.
The CET is suitable for teachers and trainers who want to build on their experience and gain a recognised qualification. You do not need to complete the Level 3 Award in Education and Training before enrolling.

How the course works
Enrol & Get Started
Enrol online and access your course through MKLC's Moodle learning platform. Start whenever you're ready and study at times that suit your schedule.
Learn & Complete Assessments
Work through your materials, complete written assignments and build your portfolio using evidence from your teaching practice. Your tutor provides guidance and feedback throughout.
Achieve Your Qualification
Successfully complete your assignments, teaching practice and observations to gain your TQUK Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training.
Teaching Practice & Observations
You’ll complete at least 30 hours of teaching practice, including a minimum of three observations totalling at least three hours. Your teaching hours must be logged and signed off by your line manager.
MKLC carries out one of your teaching observations. You can submit a video recording followed by feedback via Zoom, or arrange for us to observe your live teaching session online.
Your workplace observer must hold a Level 5 teaching qualification, provide evidence of their qualification and sign an observer declaration.

No. You can enrol directly onto the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training without completing the Level 3 Award in Education and Training first.
You must already be teaching and able to meet the CET’s teaching-practice and observation requirements.

Your workplace observer must hold a Level 5 teaching qualification, provide evidence of their qualification and sign an observer declaration.
MKLC also carries out one of your teaching observations. If you’re unsure whether your proposed workplace observer is suitable, contact us before enrolling.

The Level 4 CET focuses on developing practical skills in planning, delivering and assessing learning. It is suitable for teachers and trainers looking to strengthen their current practice.
The Level 5 Diploma in Teaching is a more extensive qualification covering broader teaching responsibilities, including curriculum planning, with a greater teaching-practice commitment.
You do not need to complete the CET before starting the Diploma. If you’re unsure which qualification suits your role and goals, we can help you choose.

You can teach a range of subjects, provided your teaching allows you to demonstrate the skills required by the qualification.
For MKLC’s CET course, the majority of your teaching hours should involve groups of learners aged over 14. If you mainly teach one-to-one or work with younger learners, contact us before enrolling so we can check whether your teaching meets the course requirements.
