Can a flipped classroom improve retention of knowledge & skills in GCSE mathematics re-sit students?

Due to the current Covid-19 situation, students attend lessons onsite once a week for 1.5 hours in this academic year instead of 2.5 hours in the previous years.

I have been using predominantly the traditional classroom method, which is a teacher-led method. One of the reasons is due to the nature of mathematics being difficult and many students struggle with most of the topics. In addition, the large amount of content that must be covered within the one academic year leaves very little time for student-led activities in class. However, in this traditional classroom, students don’t have enough preparation before the class, learn while I am presenting and discussing the concepts and complete the day’s topic with some homework. There are times when I feel that I am doing more work than the students
