Microteach Sessions

Part of the Award in Education and Training (AET) is to deliver a 15 minute microteach.

It needs to have a clear topic, a structure that allows information to be delivered and a method of assessment to check knowledge and understanding.

While asbestos may not be a topic that immediately springs to mind, one of our AET students Andrew Tudor sparked interest from the beginning by asking other students to have cardboard and drawing pins as resources in preparation for his microteach.

Lesson:

This was related to teachers using drawing pins to attach posters to walls & releasing asbestos fibres, causing lung disease from which there is no cure.

Cases of asbestos death are actually rising, even though it was banned in 1999, as there can be long lead-in times before it damages lungs.

The fact that it is still remembered by participants well after the microteach demonstrates how effective this was!

Microteaches don’t have to be boring and it can be a great opportunity for students to demonstrate their creativity!
