2020 - onwards and upwards!

Over the past couple of months, MKLC has been busy looking at new avenues of business, as well as reflecting on previous achievements and current operations.

Animated Videos

Animated videos have been added to Units 2 and 3 of the Assessor Award, as we have been getting some feedback that not enough direction is given about the evidence students need to produce.

Although instructions are in writing and sent out via email and displayed on Moodel, not everyone wants to read them before jumping into the course. We hope that the videos are a creative way to catch attention and help explain what is needed in a clear, engaging way.

We will be adding these videos to other courses throughout the year. Many thanks to Hot Lizard Designs for the videos!

IQA Interest

We have had a lot of people contacting us and wanting to go straight onto the IQA without being trained as an assessor first. Although we could offer the knowledge unit to those not intending to practise as an IQA, we do not allow those without the assessor qualification to progress to the IQA.

We have been told that a number of other training providers do allow this but our position is that those without full knowledge and experience of the assessment process should not be in a role where they supervise and support assessors.

AET

The AET has been our most popular course over the past few months, and it’s great to see so many people interested in acquiring the proper training and an accredited qualification. Group sizes have been large with over 25 students in some cases, so students are subdivided into smaller groups to ensure they receive the proper tutor support throughout the week.

Judith has been fully involved with assessing the AET groups since December and this has given her an insight into some of the issues faced by some learners.

It has been noticeable that there are two areas where learners are not providing the right information on their first submission, and this tends to be in the third unit covering assessment. Consequently, an extra pointer in the Unit 3 assignment relating to adapting assessment methods has been added, as Judith found that several learners were extolling the benefits of these methods rather than considering how they could be adapted for individual needs. The other area is the second question about sources of information, so more context has been added to the question brief to guide learners in the right direction.
